Consider the Scriptures

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:14 - 17

Timothy, like all of us, was tempted to veer from what he was taught... the truth about Christ.  Notice what Paul does here... he doesn't appeal to modern methods... he doesn't appeal to special knowledge... he doesn't even pull rank and say, "I am the Apostle Paul and you will do what I say."

What is the basis for Paul's charge to Timothy? "...you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."  Paul appeals to the power of the Gospel and the Scriptures that proclaim it!

The next time you are faced with the temptation to veer from the truth... consider "the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."

Shalom.
